Having read The Descent of Man, I enjoyed the theme, even though it doesn't reference the book whatsoever...not even a "Darwin" thrown in there somewhere. The WONDERWO[MAN] thing was nice trivia. But just like BRAINGAME yesterday, does anyone say XWORD? Colum is correct; everyone loves SCHUMANN, and I, too, filled that in immediately as well as pretty much the rest of the puzzle. Note: I did put TEenagEr in instead of TERMITES, but that worked itself out eventually.Huygenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14539030936919012404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7869983234842507044.post-79493472808033428012015-01-04T20:49:11.182-05:002015-01-04T20:49:11.182-05:00Frannie and I did this in a relaxed way, too, and ...Frannie and I did this in a relaxed way, too, and we both pretty much enjoyed it. 1A, as you point out, is pretty great cluing. And 48D: + end (ANODE) was the last thing I put in, and it took me a while even when I had A_ODE to figure out what the hell it meant! Batteries! It's classic fill, but the cluing changed it up. SNARFS was nice and slangy. PBR is hipster beer because it's cheap and it's been around, unchanged, forever. Do they remember Dennis Hopper in Blue Velvet demanding it? Probably not, but that, too, would be a good reason for it to be hipstery. It's still swill, but on a hot day at a summer barbecue, clean shaven or not, I wouldn't turn one down.

- HoraceHorace Fawleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04676932991883111336noreply@blogger.com
