I almost always choose seats on the starboard side of ships, but when Richard, Sue and I went from Tokyo to Kyoto and back, I decided to rise from my seat on said side and go over to the port side to take the photograph. This train is pictured traveling west to east (Kyoto to Tokyo). I figured out the theme relatively quickly and was able to fill in the circles that I hadn't already, aiding me in the other answers. WRETCHES could have been clued more grossly, but I liked 29D Fooling (DUPING). I'll add one negative - I think of CLIP as being equivalent to "pace," so "good pace" would be matched by "good clip," not just "clip." A quick perusal of online references shows that both are options, so I guess I have no argument, but still... I argue.

I had "peArls" first for CRAVAT, and so ran into similar difficulties in that section. At least the Roman numeral got a better clue today (58A: LIII doubled (CVI)).

Enjoyed the meta-theme, and some of the fill (NUANCE, OREGANO, MOLDERS). I guess I'd join you with the qualified thumbs up.

- HoraceHorace Fawleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04676932991883111336noreply@blogger.com
