My first rebus came in at the E[TERN]AL/FRA[TERN]ITY cross, since I knew that the latter had to be either that or sorority, neither of which would fit, and that 14D was probably FINE. Once I had the revealer, I needed only to look for the bird in the answer, and voila! The [CROW]NROYAL (which now has its own single barrel whiskey) came in next, letting me know that the rebuses wouldn't be symmetrical, and I was off and running. Definitely a great debut puzzle.Huygenshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14539030936919012404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7869983234842507044.post-27802010191006806202017-01-26T22:17:46.936-05:002017-01-26T22:17:46.936-05:0023:40 (FWTE)

Until finally [WREN] appeared. Even then I called him ThLA[WREN]CE, thinking no doubt of T.H. White, because early on I'd tried HmM for HEM, and somehow HhM seemed possible. My other error came at ANEMIA, where I'd put ANEMIc, which is a failure of parsing, as the clue is a noun, not an adjective.

Really great theme, with four rebuses placed in unpredictable squares and a wonderful revealer. I also like AGAMEMNON, MISSOURI, and LOOPHOLE. Very nice work, especially for a debut!Colum Amoryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15026647589873845732noreply@blogger.com
